413vs440, motorhomes?

K boys, going to the local yard on FRi. Taking the cirrus that the wife wrecked. "2000 cirrus, great shape, great motor, just no body left behind the rear window. Would make a great "Camino" though! FRames still there!" Runs fine! Anyhow, they have a selection of 440's and a few 413's. They seen to get alot of old motorhomes. What should I look for, advantage of the 413 for a build? they all run and these guys are very cool to me. Any advice or expected prices for haggling would be appreciated. Thanks again

It's probably easier and cheaper to get parts for the 440. Just a thought bro.

Whichever you go with, get the tranny too. From what i understand, they are a little better built than a stock 727.

What is the difference between the two? Just the bore or the stroke as well?

The 413 is 4.18 x 3.75
The 440 is 4.32 X 3.75

Casting # 1852029 from 1959-62 was a truck/ high performance 413
2658836 was an industrial 413
and 2536430 was the run o the mill 440 casting from 66-72
and 3698830 was the 440 from 73-78
and 4006630 was the 440 in 78
Hope that helps Scotty

If you could go .070 over on the 413 (very possible on the motorhome or industrial block) you would have a 426. Then if you added the 4.15 crank, you would have a 471 cubic inch motor. Still, I don't think the 413 is worth as much as the 440. Try to get it for cheap$$$.

Thanks for all the help guys. All I want is the most rigid casting as the base for a good motor. Ive seen folks spoouting the benefits of an rv block here. So far, I'm a believer in the 400 block for stroker applications.. Read the 400, though its shorter, is more rigid. Then I hear the 413 is a stronger block. I'm blessed that I have a local yard thats full of both. We have a 2000 cirrus that I have to junk, "thanks wife", and I'm thinking of doing a Jack and the Beanstalk thing. Go there with an old car hoping to get 300 bucks , and come back with a bigger motor for the RR

If you want rigid then go with the 413 as the cylinder walls will be a little thicker. Either way, both motors I believe have beeter cooling as well.

I think there was a thread some time ago about someone putting an RV motor in a car (can't remember the body now) and they had issues with installing the headers. Could be mistaken though.
