452 Head work

Hi All,

Looking for advice as to what to do to restore my 452 Iron heads. I was thinking on doing the MP template porting, Getting them resurfaced as well as the IM if necessary and was wondering if upsizing the Ex. Valve would make a difference or is it not worth it for the extra $$(new valves/seats ect.) I am hoping to reuse the rocker assembly with new springs, new Cam, pistons, perfomer intake and a 750 Holley Carb with 1 3/4 headers to get 400hp out of my 440.

Do I need any work done on the guides for the lift increase to .480", one other thing, will my factory push rods work with .010 off the Deck, and the same off the heads?? I'm planning on using a hydraulic cam Comp cam xtreme 274H. Thanks.

Ok valve job, new springs, over sized ex valves, surfacing $$$. For a few hundred more you could get some aftermarket heads Around $1500

Do you know if those 440 source stealths need work out of the box?? If I go with them can I use my rocker assembly and push rods? I will get the bare heads if anything and use the springs out of the Xtreme Cam kit. Thanks for the reply.

By experience with them...have them checked to make sure they are flat. If not have them milled. When you change out the springs you will have to use some 11/32" valve locks otherwise you will have terrible problems. Someone else found that out for me. Their valve stems are 11/32".

Maybe the way to go then would be fully assembled set. Then I guess the only part left out of the valve assembly would be push rods. Would my factories work or would you recommend new ones if I've replaced everything else.

Other than that are you satisfied with your Stealths? Do the other top end components bolt up ok? Thanks again!

I replaced the spring to match the cam also went with 10 degree locks and retainers. My cam was also alot higher lift than yours. I don't use old with new except for the block and crankshaft and maybe the connecting rods.
