we need more information about the 440, cr, heads, intake/carb, car body, auto or manual trans and rear end gear.

im putting it in a 1987 dodge truck short wheel base 2 wheel drive I have never built one before and I am planning on doing it my self I wanna do a full rebuild with a cam a pretty large cam I also know I'll need a stalled torque converter but don't know what size cam and I don't want ridiculous power I do know that a 1976 440 has a cast iron crank im rambling on I gotta get the heads machined.... give me some advice

Big power, daily driver and not rich by any means don't usually go together well.
I think what your'e looking for is a reliable motor, maybe a little above stock, that will give you better than 8 mpg and enough vacuum for brakes, etc.
Basically, anything that adds power will reduce mileage.
Do a little more research and come up with workable expectations.
Look at the links that Bob gave you, and talk to local engine builders, guys experienced with Mopar.
Can't make specific recommendations with realistic HP expectations.
