Cam for 1966 426 Hemi

Hey guys I currently have a stock 1966 426 Hemi that I am putting into my challenger and I heard that although the 1966 cam was mechanical it was a very mild cam so I want to replace it with a hydraulic but I want to get street/strip performance out of it so any help would be appreciated.

My two cents, there's nothing mild about a Hemi. Why don't you put the motor in first and try it.

I know there is nothing mild but I want a moderate idle and plenty of power, my plan for the car is mainly street use but I want performance

if you want a decent idle, high lift cams wont help ya there
i'd check out edelbrock

I agree, I've rode in a stone stock hemi car and there is nothing mild about it. They rattle when they are started, they like to puff oil when cold and they idle like a coffee can full of rocks. In other words, I love 'em! Yeah the hydraulic cam might help a little bit but the main reason for the hydraulic cam is so you dont have to adjust the valvetrain. Adjusting the valve train is a main pain in the *** because of the clearance of the hemi engine. the valve cover gets in the way of the master cylinder
