I've have a garage, and keep my cars inside durning the winter, and use a 50/50 mix of coolant, and test it in the fall and don't put the cars away for the winter untill the coolant is strong enough for -45 to -50, well somthing must have gone wrong!

I Spent the day in the garage today working on my Triumph, and while on the ground I noticed a puddle of coolant under my 64' Sport Fury! Not a good sign, looks like in the week of -45 temps we had a few weeks back the coolant in the Fury froze, the upper rad hose is split, looks like the lower is split too. there was coolant everywhere in the engine bay, even inside the dizzy! I think the rad and heater core might be split as well! And I think the seal on the water pump is toat as well. So I drained the coolant, and came inside.

The frost plugs didn't blow out, so I guess thats a good sign, but I am worried that if the coolant froze in the block it might have lifted the heads.

Can't do much till spring, so I'm going to go have a beer!

 

Its bad enough to have to survive in -45 temps but when you ride gets frost bitten that really sucks!!!!!!!

I can't imagine -45........... WAY Too cold for this Floridian!!!!!

 

Lol! Last time I was in Florida I remember saying it's way to hot for a poor ole' Canadian boy like me! I got some strange looks!

 

The coolant doesn't flow anywhere near the distributor. If there is actually coolant in there and not just condensation, you have HUGE problems.

 

I was bitchin' when it went down to -2 the other night. cant imagine -45.

Yep! Coolant inside the dizzy! I'm hoping it was from when the upper rad hose split i think it sprayed coolant everywhere. either that or I'm looking at some nasty damage!

Don't try cranking it, find a way to warm it up, pull the spark plugs and look for coolant in the cylinders. Hopefully its OK. That happened to a 361 62 Dodge Polara I had as a kid. Hydraulic locked a piston, and bent the rod.
