Ex HACK tly. The thing is, there is (at present) no real inforcement towards individuals of automotive smog laws. If your state has any form of inspection, "this depends." In some states you must pass an underhood physical test as well as a tail pipe test. This also might be up to the inattention, the laxness, or outright bribery on the part of the inspector.

I would certainly check state law before removing.

It may mess with some sensors. I know I had a 318 in one of my cars without the cc, but I didn't have the sensors / computers that are on board today. I am really not sure though. What I am sure of is if you hack it off, unless you know someone real close that is willing to inspect your vehicle without the cc, it won't pass inspection. Definitely check laws in your state and your homework on inspections before hacking off. The coppers will never check unless you really give them a reason too.

I'll do some more checking to see what I can find. I will be talking to a couple of friends today that will have some insight. I'm sure someone here has and will have some more info too. Good luck.

From my knowledge and experience, the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter is the only sensor that will be affected. The sensor after the cat only serves the purpose of letting you know that the cat is going bad, meaning it has no control over how the vehicle runs. So no, removing the cat won't affect any of your main sensors. BUT, it will trip the check engine light because it knows the cat is bad/missing. So while it won't hurt the way your truck runs, the light WILL be on. You have to find a way to trick the sensor into thinking the cat is still there for the light to go off. Performance wise, removing the cat won't give you nearly the gains everyone claims. Unless your motor is some high-performance monster, a cat doesn't hurt it any. Your best bet if your cat is going bad is to replace it with something like Magnaflow's universal high-flow cat. It will keep your truck legal, your light off, and has better flow characteristics than most factory cats.....just my 2 cents
