fuel pump eccentric

Does anyone here know what the eccentric looks like, it evidently is located on the camshaft behind the pump. It runs the mechanical fuel pump on a 70s model 318 mechanical pump. I seen something like one that is round with a slit through one side of leading to a center hole. Maybe that could be my problem. Can this part come off with wear and can it be replaced easily. Thanks again.

If you are having problems I would look at the arm on the pump they do wear down sometimes as much as a 1/2 inch. That will be easier to check before removing the timing cover to check the eccentric. And yes it is bolted to the end of the camshaft.

that's pretty much the size of the arm (thickness)if it wore that much, there's probably more than that wrong.

It is a common problem for the arm to wear down, especially if the fuel pump has been replaced with an aftermarket pump.

So, I'm learning here as I never owned a small block Mopar.

On a 383, there is a push rod that rides on the eccentric and pushes the fuel pump lever down.

On a 318, the fuel pump lever actually rides on the eccentric?

Enlighten me please and thank you!

On any carburated small block mopar there is an eccentric bolted to the front of the cam as stated earlier. On big blocks there is a push rod that runs off of a lobe on the camshaft.

If you get a camshaft originally made for a magnum motor or a motor that was originally fuel injected the shoulder is not on the cam to hold the eccentric. I hope that helps.

The eccentric can wear too. Also if the engine has been apart before maybe the cam bolt was left loose or it has loosened up over time.
