Sounds like you could have a grounding wire issue or it could be a couple of different things.

Does your radio light up when the lights are on? Do your dash lights work? Do your blinkers work on your dash? Do your front directionals work? Do your headlights work (hi and low beam)? Have you checked the bulbs (I know this sounds stupid, but it happened to a friend where all his bulbs blew over a 5 mile trip).

I know that you said that you already checked the fuses and they are good, but are they the right amp size and right type or fuse? There are some different types of fuses that are used in these older cars.

Have you checked the blinker fluid level in the turn signals, they act-up when it gets low.

under the dash there is one of these

they go bad and the turn signals dont work, this is what clicks when you turn them on on a functioning unit.
