High Idle

I have acquired a 440 with under 5K miles on it (fresh rebuild). I heard the motor run and it ran great while in another car. I got it without intake/carb, fuel pump, plug wires and a few other parts. We put it into a 72 roadrunner (with newly rebuilt 727) that was originally a 400. Bought new carb (AED 750 HO), carter mechanical fuel pump, stock 69 440 intake, and new plug wires. Now we can't seem to get it to idle below 1500rpm. Runs great at 1500rpm and has great throttle response while in park. As soon as you try to set idle lower it will die. Also when put in gear it wants to die if not given gas to get idle up. Runs decent once you keep idle up, so red lights are not a great sight (2 foot it). And just doesn't seem to have much power while out on the road. Timing has been checked, firing order checked and rechecked. Checked for leaks at carb/intake. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Check the throttle levers and pedal, make sure nothing is causing them to bind and not allow the throttle to fully return!
