Need help friends
I tried to install the ignitor 11 electronic ignition in my distributor with no luck.i removed the points and installed it.the problem i seem to have was removeing the ballast resistor,i also have a black box that has to wires running to it .One side say IGN,the other Field. My car is 1965 so im not sure what that box does.I contacted protronics tech and hes not sure about it either.any help would be great.Hope i explained this okay ,if not fell free to let me know

It is my 65 plymouth and it has the y block 318.it recommends you eliminate the ballast resistor and run a hot wire to the coil ,but when i try and start it ,it will back fires through the carb,im thinking i must have a bad part. When i go back to the points it runs perfect.I just wanted the reliable electronic ignition .not so sure now
Thanks Scott

Never used a protronic's unit on a Mopar, but did have on on my MG and Triumph. With those it was possible to get the set up 180 degrees backwards so it would fire while on the intake stroke, which caused it to backfire thru the carb!

Ok, from what I saw on the petronix site with the ignitor for the 12v ground system, the black wire should go to the neg of the coil. I dont see where it says to REMOVE the ballast resistor. If the resistor is kept, the ignitor red wire would go to the regulator side of the resistor. Looks like its dark blue on your car. http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/1965/65FuryB.JPG Hope this helps, it should be the schematic for your car.

[most of] The aftermarket ignitions do not use the ballast resistor but that means you must use a compatible COIL to go with the aftermarket ignition. The factory old mopar coils were not rated for a constant 12+ volts. Use a MSD coil [non resistor type] . you need to know what coil is compatible with the system you have.
