Hi all, wondering if anyone has experience successfully converting a 727 Torqueflight kickdown rod to a cable assembly and maintaining the downshift to passing gear capability. I recently installed a Lokar brand throttle and kickdown cable assembly with Allstar Performance throttle bracket on my 360 LA w/727 Torqueflight (vehicle was previously set up for 2bbl carb). The problem I’m having, is getting the kickdown valve adjustment right. When I adjust the cable so that at WOT the kickdown is fully open, the shift point for 2nd and 3rd gear are way too high (~30 and 60mph resp.). When I add slack to the cable so that the kickdown valve opens later, I loose passing gear capability. It seems that the length of stroke from the Edelbrock AVS2 linkage is longer than the original setup and I think this difference in cable pull length is causing the problem. Has anyone had this issue and hopefully found a solution? Or maybe most drivers aren’t concerned with having a passing gear.
Thanks for the feedback but this I know. When I adjust for lever fully open at WOT, the transmission shifts to 2nd and 3rd WAY too high. It may take a transmission person or someone who has direct experience with the cable conversion to fully grasp the problem. To be honest I'm not super hopeful that a good solution exists.
