Oil Type High Mileage Car

My LHS is due for an oil change and I don't really know what oil type to go with. It has high mileage kendall oil in it right now since the last change. I wonder if I should go full synthetic, or what have you, any thoughts appreciated on the subject.

I have always had the understanding that if you switch to synthetic you'll need to stay with it cause the differences in conventional and synthetic will slowly cause gasket issues if you flip flop. I also thought the higher the milage the thicker the weight and conventional should be used, thicker to close up clearance and conventional to take away more deposits. Sythetic is good for lubrication do to the smaller molecules. That is my understanding on oil.

I've always used what was recommnded in my Ram, 10-30. But around 200k the oil pressure was starting to drop. Switched to 10-40 and its ok for now. I already replaced the oil pump, so it must be the mains.

No It's not having any problems with the oil at the moment. And to answer the what mileage question. It has 175xxx on it. And I heard the same about once you go synthetic you stay synthetic. I just don't know what would be best. It has the 3.5 H.O motor if that matters.

With that number of miles I'd recommend a high mileage oil. They are specially formulated to fight sludge and have added seal conditioners. If you are not having any problems with oil pressure I'd stick with the manufacturer recommended oil weight.

I work at the Avenger/Sebring plant and some of the new motors are requiring 5-w20 from the factory due to the tighter clearances they are using.

OK, so I should go with the factory recommended weight, and go with a High Mileage Oil. Sounds good, I'll get-r-done this weekend hopefully. Thanks for the input...
