Smile PCV ON 318 hook up question

I just dropped a new 318 in my belvedere and i have an oil cap on the driver side and a breather on the passenger side. I am getting steam/ smoke out of the breather on the passenger side.

Do I need to hook one side up to the PCV port on the carb?

I thought that the PCV was just an emissions thing but with the smoke coming from the breather I am thinking maybe not.

Can anyone explain how, why , and if i need to hook up a pcv on the motor.

Thanks all

Not a heavy cam but a mild upgrade from stock I am also running 9.6 to 1 compression pistons. I am going to the store today to buy a PCV and hook it up.

Thanks for the help

Im having this same problem on my '68 Polara (318), has pcv valve on right valve cover & the left valve cover has a breather hose that goes to the inlet on the stock air cleaner..the engine makes enough steam to slightly choke the motor at idle so I took that hose off & the car runs fine now but makes a ton of steam out of the breather filter I put on it. Not sure on the history of my 318, can this be head gaskets? Runs good, idles good, no oil in water & vise versa but makes steam out the left valve cover. Any thoughts/ideas??????
