recommend a carb

Finally got the replacement 400 in the cordoba, and have removed the lean burn system. could you guys recommend a good replacement intake and carb that will still work with all the factory linkage? This is for a 78 cordoba, but the motor is out of a 76 Gran Fury. The only mod done to the car is a set of headers.

I'm kinda needing the same answer for my 74 RR w/ a 400. Just a decent running replacement for the thermo-quad. cheaper the better. Or the name of a TQ guru.

I have always been very pleased with Edlebrock intakes and carbs. They seem to fit just right and don't alter the carb height that much if at all. Since you one have added headers, I would go with their Performer intake and a 750 CFM carb. The intake has a power band of idle to 5500 RPM which is great for daily driving and entry level strip racing. You will/should notice better throttle response and more power off the line.

I would stay away from weiand intakes as i had one on a 78 318 SB and it just never fit right. I had to modify it to fit.

Edlebrock is a good replacement for the TQ carbs from what I have heard from local guys. If you want it to be rebuilt, I would go onto some local 4x4 forums/car forums and see what people recommend in your area for shops. I would look for a carb shop that has been around for years as they will probably still have all the parts needed to rebuild it properly. Not to mention their knowledge of the older carbs is second to none.

Thanks, my worry was that since the edelbrock replacement was no longer avial. that using an adapter w/ a square bore would be too high for the hood. w/ the stock air cleaner. My area has no old carb guys. they have moved on in one way or another.

I would recommend finding an old factory iron 383 intake [non spreadbore] at a mopar swap meet or maybe hear or online whatever. Probably can find one cheap. Than you can run an Elddy carb, regular or the newer AVS type {real sweet carb for the street}. Or you can run a Holley. Both eldebrock and Holley make the adaptors for the mopar linkages if you need 'em.
I can rebuild an old TQ but getting it to work right on your specific combo is hard. They are a hard carb to get the bugs worked out of 'em.
Another option would be the Quadrajet carb [and I promised myself I wouldn't mention the "Q" word, gosh darn it] Easy to adapt with donor from a mid eighties mope 4bbl 318. (....I'm gonna hear it now, I used the 'Q' word.....) Oh well, ....ENJOY!!
