ROADRUNNER ID
ROADRUNNER ID
I've been offered a rough but numbers matching 70 Roadrunner.
Thing is, I need to be able to authenticate that it's really a Roadrunner and not just a Satellite.
There's a fender tag and signs of it being a Roadrunner.
What can I look for that will positively identify this car as a Roadrunner????
Will the fender tag decode as Roadrunner and not just Satellite for example.....???
I need something that I can do easily at the sellers place.
Any help here please..????????

Thanks, Morrigan. I also read your posting on my other thread.
I'm not likely to be able to share the VIN info until I'm the owner (understandably) so all I'm gonna get is a look on the day of decision.
You'll have to excuse my general ignorance as far as MoPars are concerned since although I've had quite a few MoPars in my time, the vast majority of my American cars have been (gasp) GM
Will I find the "RS23" code within the vin or tag .....??????
I just read your other post and looked at the Year one link and got the impression that I should be looking for RM23 and not RS23 in the vin. What gives...?????

You don't need to share the WHOLE VIN...just do not provide the last 6 numbers. That's the serial number of the car. Everything forward of that (the first 7 letters and numbers) tells you the basic info on the car. The current owner should not have any issues sharing the VIN and fender tag data with you. However, if the owner knows the car is fradulent, then you can understand the resistance. The other option is if the current owner doesn't KNOW what they have. In that case, peek through the window and get the first 7 digits! RM23 is a RR HT, RM21 is a RR coupe, RM27 is a RR ragtop. RS series cars are GTXs.
The VIN is located on the top of the dash, stamped on a piece of metal, on the drivers side and visible from the wind shield.
Your fender tag will be located on the drivers fender and screwed down with two screws. It is a reverse-stamped plate and will have raised letters. It has most all of the finer details about the car. A build sheet would have the most detailed information.
Ok, here's a great website that lists some of your body options, like ragtop, coupe etc and tells you where else you can find VIN number stampings on the body (to verify authenticity). The VIN is also found on your fender tag. They should match, of course.

Of course, a real RR would NOT have anything less than a big block in it, so check the numbers and verify that is the motor in the compartment too. So you will need to learn a little about engine stamps and date codes.
Here's info on casting numbers:

And on stamps:

All in all, you may find this is not a RR, but it might be a well optioned, big block Satellite or Belvedere. Often sleeper cars were ordered in this manner.
Let us know what you find out, and good luck.

No problem Raindance. I don't know everything but I'm pretty good at research. If you need more help, let me know.
If you can take photos of the numbers (VIN, block stamp and casting codes, fender tag, etc) that is most helpful to you later down road.
I loved the UK when I visited again in '05. I'd love to move there someday but my growing horse and car collection will prevent that I'm sure.

Hi again Morrigan.
Just to let you know that the deal fell through. The guy rang me just before I left home and told me he had a better offer (before even hearing mine). Still, I guess that it saved me a four hour drive for nothing.............
Thanks for your help.
BTW feel free to move to England -I can find room for the cars but the horses might be a problem......!!!!
