Slant Six Timing Way Off

My 225 slant six Scamp's timing mark is way, way off (if the mark's at 10:00, my timing mark is at 2:00) but engine runs perfectly.

Any idea how/why this could be?

The outer ring of the harmonic balancer has broken the rubber bonding and slipped.

The balancer must be replaced as soon as possible if not sooner. It can and will come apart causing damage to anything and everything including you if your working under the hood at the time.

Thanks all. We wondered if it was the rubber piece. Would this also cause the pulley to look askew from the side? Thought that seemed weird as well.

Can it really fall apart?!

"Fall" apart isn't really the correct terminology. They'll violently explode apart — so yeah, i'd replace it asap or have a knowledgeable guy at least take a look at it and confirm or deny.

Gotcha...scary. Thanks for the heads up. Any chance it could just be missing a damper bolt?

No, not with the timing marks off like they are. This is classic Chrysler.
