Starter Question

I'm pretty sure it needs to be replaced but I have a 74 plymouth satellite with a 318 and the only way to start it it to basically jump the starter solenoid. Would I need to replace it or could it just be wiring?

There cheap enough but it could be the wiring coming from or the ignition switch.

If your starting it jumping to solenoid. the problem is not the stater.... You ether have a ignition switch, wiring, safety switch issue....

cheapest thing to start with is the starter relay. You can borrow another relay such as AC sometimes and just swap them to see if that resolves the problem, not sure on your specific car what relays you have. Just look to see if there is another relay same as the starter in the relay box and swap them. Other than that it could be ignition switch as Bob said. The other culprit I deal with on my rigs is the neutral safety switch on automatics. Try shifting to neutral instead of park and wiggle the shifter as you are trying to start it.

Exactly. Don't pull that heavy starter for no reason.
