I've a 2001 Stratus with a V6 2.7 LTR engine,147K miles. Recently, when starting cold, the engine exhibits a rumbling sound and eventually stops after a handful of minutes. The other thing that's happening is the engine is leaking oil, and WHEN it does, it's an area the size of a dinner plate. I say WHEN, because sometimes it doesn't at all.

We'd like to sell this car, but I'd like to find out if the engine is having a serious issue. I don't want to sell it to someone and have it quit. Is there a diagnostic test that can determine if this engine is ready to die?

 

Is the check engine light on at all? Can you see where the oil is leaking from?

 

The check engine light has NOT come on, and no, I can't tell where the oil's coming from. Guessing it's time to take it to a mechanic.

 

I remember the rear main seal leaking on those cars but that was the only leak. As for the noise, I'm not sure what it would be.

 

Just google Chrysler, 2.7, problems Sit back and enjoy for the next few hours! Long story short.....it aint good.
