swap 904 to a500
I am getting ready to swap in a A500 in place of a 904 against a 318. The 904 has a non-lock up converter and of course the A500 does.
The A500 came out of a Dakota with a V6 not sure which engine.
MY question is will the V6 converter bolt up to my 904 flex plate?

You are really going to want to get your hands onto an A518 as those trannies are a little stronger and more reliable than the A500 is, plus not to mention they were behind all the 318s and 360s in the full size vans and trucks that chrysler built before the introduction of the Magnum motors.
The only V6 that came in the Dakotas was the 3.9 V6 (non-magnum and magnum versions were both the same size).
What is the vehicle that it is going in?

swap 904
I am putting it in my 37 plymouth coupe, need to increase mpg . I am running a 318 4bbl has a mild cam - near stock numbers on the cam.
This car is not a tire smoker and never intended it to be so the a500 should be fine.
Most of the drive time is around town its when I do take it for a 60 mph or faster run on the interstate that the mileage bothers me. Tach shows 2500 at 60.
Anyway back to the flex plate - will the a500 torque converter work with the 904 flex plate and I quess the other question is - are the tc's the same diameter - tooth count?

You can do the cheap way and wire up a toggle switch or use some Hyd pressure switches at the trans. I have seen A500s in vans so it should be ok as long as you don't Hot Rod it. I would get a shift kit for it to as there are some modifications to improve the oiling circuits

This is the first time I have been back to this site in sometime . I had intended to post more info on how the swap went .
I would have to go thru my wiring diagrams and look up part numbers .
I wired it thru a toogle then to a brake switch ( so that when you step on the brake it drops out of overdrive ) then to a GM vacumm switch ( so when you step down on the gas peddle the vacumm drops and it drops out of overdrive ) then I wiried it to two adjustable pressure switches , about 20$ each. ( one for 3rd to 4th shift and the other for torque converter lock up ) .
I used adjustable pressure switches so I could fine tune when it shifted into OD and when the converter locked up . On one of the sites that gives info for this swap they say to use a 40 or 45lb pressure switch - but what they are not saying is that your rearend gear and tire size can change when that pressure is reached .
I have had it in for almost 2 years and everything works the way it should . Before the tach would read 2500 at 60mph now it reads 1750 .
I am getting around 20 mpg at 60 mph -= thats up from 14 mpg at 60.
I will try to remember to look up the part numbers for the switches and post them . I can be emailed at tommygmit@yahoo.com
