Tranny cooler behind radiator.

What would happen if I put the tranny cooler behind the coolant radiator?

The stock fan is a air puller and the electric fan in the front of the coolant radiator is a pusher.
If I mount the cooler that is inline with the radiator cooling lines on the engine side of the radiator, wouldn't it still cool?
I always see them on front of the coolant radiator but, if there is constant air flow, would it be OK?

Any concerns?

I wouldn't do it. Would it still cool? In theory, yes, but only if the radiator was not putting out any heat. The heat from the radiator will heat up the tranny cooler and cook your fluid. if you can not mount the cooler between the front fan and radiator, then mount it between the grill and front fan.

Using puller AND a pusher fans in close proximity to each other may not be a great idea as the odds are the air flows (cfms) will be fighting each other. With engine driven "puller" fans (like clutch or flex fans) the blades typically work better when fairly close to the radiator surface (like 1" away or even less, if safe, based on engine movement). That alone would usually preclude placing the tranny cooler behind the radiator.

Also assuming that you plan on using the tranny cooler in addition to the one in the radiator, and not in place of it, right?

Only to comment that my tranny cooler is a separate entity located in front
(grill) side of the radiator. And I think in front of the radiator would be the best place for it as the heat drawn out of the radiator is moved to the engine side. (what Tim said)

The radiator is inline with the tranny cooler.
The stock puller flex fan is about 5 inches from the radiator. There is no shroud on the radiator.
The electric fan only comes on when is stop and go traffic and shuts off when coolant temp goes below 160-170ish.

I understand the radiator will put off heat and was thinking it didn't matter what air flow direction the tranny cooler got it's flow from but, I guess fresh cool air is better than blown warm air.
I'll keep it in front by the grille somewhere.

Thanks guys...

You want it plumbed in after the radiator as it will help to keep the fluid cooler and keep your tranny from wearing out faster.

Also, I think you should find a shroud for that radiator as it will help to draw more air in through the radiator rather than just around it.
