Hey aka_rusty,

Pulled it out today and found the transmission stamp, it matches the vin, 8B383055. Still can't locate it on the block, it's not where it is in the picture from the guides I found.

Would it be weird if the transmission was stamped and the block wasn't?

 

No, not considering that the pad was not stamped on top.

Check out my links, I think had a different location then the one you provided.

There is no vin stamping on the pan rail but I did find what looks to be a vin stamp on top of the bell housing right where the trans lines up

heres another area to look at i know on small blocks 68 and earlier they have vins stamped on the rear of the block where the bell housing mounts too check the rear of the motor on top the two upper bolts that connect the trans to motor over on driver side

nope, tried to do a diagram but nope rear of motor on top by bell housing bolts driver side maybe a vin no. there
