1985 381 Carter BBD

I do not know where to start to right this engine. I bought a reman carter carb replacing a Holley.

I don't know how to set the metering rod, choke, mixture screws, and probably other stuff.

I need to know what order to do these things in and if there is a location for information about specifications or with instructions.

I think it needs the timing adjusted, but I'm not sure when to do that (before or after carb adjustments or both).

Any general help you can send me will help me be more specific with my questions. Thanks!

its best to have a factory service manual of the right year. the basics is remember how its put together. and get the parts clean. if its the one with 3 castings it has two screws that go throu the top and middle castings. and threads into the bottom casting. DO be careful to NOT over tighten the two screws. that will warp the two top castings. and the float level is 1/4". off the top of the middle casting to the top of the float.
