318 balance vs 360 balance?

Question 318 balance vs 360 balance?

hello guys, i got a 318 and just decided to replace it for a 360, i dont have converter and flexplate from 360, i was looking for balance issue in web, just found their balance is just different... so i'll be needing another converter and flexplate for 360 balance right?
any input, advice to accomplish this balance? could i use 318 converter or not for balancing? is converter really needed to make balance??

Not all 318s are created equal, but if this is the "usual suspect", that is, internal balance, the factory flexplate has nothing to do with balance. On a factory 360, the balance is taken care of by weights on the flywheel. There are only three ways that I'm aware of

One is to buy a converter that has weights installed for a 360, and of course it must fit whichever auto you have, make sure it's 904, or 727 or lockup or not, etc

Second is to buy an aftermarket (B&M) flexplate made especially to work with a stock (neutral balance) converter, the flexplate then has the necessary balance built in

Third, there is/ was a Mopar Performance kit floating around and also diagrams on the www to show where the weights go, and is possible to weld weights onto a 318 converter. This last seems to me not very accurate nor practical, and requires CAREFUL work.

You could ruin a converter, end up with an unbalanced assembly, or unsafe welds which might throw a weight, none of which are good.

in my own case, this 318 has weights on converter, so i suppost it is external balance right? so im getting a converter for 360... i just wondering how am i going to give the balance to my 360, in the balance factory told me they can not balance with the converter on due the internal alabes from converter, so how am i going to give the balance to 360??

Front damper is specific to 360.. Cost wise it is cheaper to just get a 360 flex plate (B&M) with the balance built in... OR if you are planning to replace the converter anyway ? get one for a 360 your choice. The advantage to the flex plate is you can change/ swap converters without concern for balance.
Having small weights on the converter is normal for balance.. the 360 balance has a Very large weight on the engine side of the flexplate

well i dont have 360 converter neither flexplate, getting flexplate with the balance built from aftermarket would be the best solution, unfortunately i can not get it as soon as i need, so i need to find a neutral converter and add something to flexplate which substitutes weight from converter to get balance back... i can not think another solution, im just out of time to get an aftermarket...

I don't know where you live?? You could have someone like Mancinni Racing Overnight ship one too you...

i'm from mexico, car's owners just want it to be as soon as posible and he doesn't want to bring parts from us....senseless, if it were mine i just go with the aftermarket...anyway, that's why im looking for another solution, this is kinda mad.... thanks.

According to the Mopar chassis book, later 318's with cast cranks were out of balance enough that they had converter weights. This was news to me.
