318 Block Question
318 Block Question
I have a 1984 Dodge W150 that needed an engine overhaul. I decided to purchase a short block and keep the old one. I bought a new SB and then got distracted for 1.5 years. I finally go around to the swap and when I got it in to finish the transmission mount I discovered that the driver side engine to transmission mount hole in the block was about 2 1/2 inches farther forward. It took me a couple of weeks to find out that for a couple of years MOPAR changed the drivers side engine to transmission bracket. Do any of you know a solution as in a place to look for the correct part or a reliable fabrication method for a replacement? The truck drives but I'm can't put any real stress on it for fear I will do some damage. Thanks to anyone in advance who can save my bacon.
I've never heard of this. I believe some of the MAGNUM small blocks are different mounts than LA, but I don't think any of the LA engines are different from each other
Are you sure you have the correct engine bracket, and are you sure you are bolting it on TO THE REAR of the casting ears?
The photo below is a big block, but it illustrates the point. The bracket goes behind the engine casting ears

Thanks for your reply. Your picture was of the engine mount which was exactly the same. I was referring to the engine to transmission bracket that connects the bottom of the transmission bell housing to the side if the 318 engine block on the drivers side. I will get a picture of the bracket that was removed if necessary but I don't have a clue what the one I need looks like. If this is not making sense, please let me know. Thanks.
Un-related to your post I had to take mine off when I installed headers on a car. I never looked back. It's a neat idea to have those brackets brace the motor and tranny but you won't break anything.
Now to get opinions on the best resolution to solving the fuel delivery issue with the Holley two barrel that was OEM on the truck. It functioned well for about 4 and 1/2 years and then went south. I swapped it for a rebuild and has to readjust fuel to air and idle to even get it to run. No matter how much tinkering I have done, the performance isn't any where near what it was.
