318 low idle & stalls when cold
I have a 1985 B250 Dodge Van with a 318 & Holley 6280 Carb.
I need help diagnosing a low idling issue. The engine is idling very low, and sometimes stalls when not warmed up. I have to step on the gas when I am at a stoplight. When it is warmed up it still idles very low but does not stall completely.
I put a vacuum gauge on it and the needle bounces a little between 14 and 15.5. When I put it in gear it drops way down. It feels like an ignition issue, like its missing or something, but I just replaced all new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Also replaced fuel pump a few months ago.
I checked the timing and it’s about where it’s supposed to be. The Service Manual says it should be 10 Degrees and I have it at about 11.
I checked for a vacuum leak but have not found any so far, but I am still looking (there are hoses everywhere).
I was going to adjust the idle on the carb but there is only 1 screw. Looks like it hits some solenoid located on driver's side of the Carb. I also don't know much about the Holley 6280.
I am not too familiar with all of the emissions stuff, but the EGR is next on my list. I think it’s working but I am not sure the proper test procedure. I can hear it clicking when I squeeze one of the vacuum lines going into the valve cover.
Any advice on what to tackle next would be great. Thanks.
Justin
