340 Intake plug?

340 Intake plug?
Is the hole in the attached picture supposed to be plugged on a stock 70 model 340 intake?

Is it threaded if it is than yes. it looks to be in the coolant jacket which would be for a gauge probe or sending unit.

No its not threaded and the temp sensor is on the other side of the thermostat.

I had a manifold with one of those holes. Only conclusion I can reach is that it was an index for multi head machine tools
