360 advice

Hiya folks

I’m currently working on a 77 b200 camper van project. Budget is limited but I’ll do anything that is needed or a good idea. My main concern is fuel economy and second is noise/comfort.

it’s got a 360, 727 with a 3.23 rear end in it. I’ve already picked up a rebuilt 46rh and plan to pickup a better condition (rebuilt by a mopar affiliated shop at some point) 360 as the one I’ve got needs a lot of work. I also intend to swap the direct drive fan for an electric one for obvious reasons. My main question is what other upgrades do y’all recommend? I intend to do some maintenance and clean up on the 360 but could I benefit in puting in a new cam? If so which one? Exhaust manifolds? What do y’all recommend?

Additionally just to confirm, the flex plate out of a 96 ram 1500 5.9 would solve my need for external balancing yes?

thanks for any and all advice y’all provide!

-T

Im not sure the OD transmission will pay off in fuel savings, the 2V 360 can be as fuel efficient as any other in your van. But I don't see the transmission paying off unless your planning on driving 25k per year...

I would agree..... I think that you would need to do a complete package... 360 Magnum with EFI and a O.D. Trans to really make any real difference.
So you kind of need a crashed Van to swap things over... Just my 2 cents

Love the old Van Conversions.... We have a Van Cruise coming up soon here in SO-CAL....

I like the Magnum idea, I bought a new 95 4x4that would do 18mpg regularly and when pulling my car trailer it would do 21mpg...
so I agree with Bob a complete swap is what I recommend, FI inc..

Hmm. Y’all got me thinking. I new I wanted the od at some point and then when looking around found this one reaaally cheap which was the biggest reason for tricking it up. (It’s been rebuilt by a reputable shop and I got it for 650 cad). I figured I’d stick to the la then potentially add magnum heads a few years down the road if I felt it was needed. Which would be what I do however…after reading your replies I found a magnum for sale. Guy is asking 2k it has only 8500kms! It’s more than I wanted to spend for sure but I may have to consider it.
