360 Build for street

I messed the head gaskets of my 360 while installing them so as I have to disassemble the engine to change them I want to take this opportunity to build it.

This engine is going to be mounted on my '74 Fury for daily driver, I'm satisfied with the stock power from this "smog era" engine but I'll be happier with more bang from the throttle

I was thinking about raising the compression ratio to something between 9.0 to 9.5 and a camshaft like this, I'm not sure yet about the pistons because I can't remember if the current bore is 4.000" or 4.020", I'll check it this weekend.

I don't know if could be important but my current heads are stock, the part number is 3769974

Sounds good, but, will I keep the smooth idle or is going to become a bit rough? or maybe is there a better option for camshaft?

I'm worried about the vacuum at idle and idle quality, I don't want to have rough idle and neither problem with vacuum dependent accessories like brake booster or even vacuum advance

That cam should have high vacuum and smooth idle with 218' at .050" duration.

If your looking at comp, maybe a Dual Energy 265 (says stock exh manifolds), or XE 262 or the XE 256 I put in the 318 truck which has 19" of vacuum and tons of low end grunt if you have a hwy gear. Stay below 230' at .050" duration for sure.

I would fill out Comps cam recommendation on their site and see what they say. You'll get an e-mail response in 1-2 days. Knowing your rear gear ratio and tire size is helpful.

Your stock head and valve size will be good for this heavy car "build for street" I like it!

If I'm right my car has a 2.73 rear end but I want to change it for a 3.23 once I change the TF727 for an A518.

I'm planning to run headers after do the dual exhaust work. I'm going to fill the comps cam recommendation form just to see what they can recommend.

The description of the camshaft says that is made for engines with a compression ratio between 8:1 to 9:1, Would I have any problem if I build it for example with 9.5:1 CR?

9.5 would be good, make it a little snappier.

There was a time when many engines came with 9.5-10.5 compression and smaller cams than we put in ours now. It's not like your 11 or 12 and trying to use a cam to knock it down and make it driveable on pump gas.

If this was a light Dart hot rod I'd be saying oh boy more cam, more gear, more stall, lets have some fun, but it's not.

Sounds like you've got a well planned heavy street car build, not just an engine build and start changing stuff so the engine can work. 9.5 is good but no more.

After watching some videos of a 268 comps cam I'm starting thinking the same. The idle sounds rough but the throttle response is great, the problem is that i think the stock cam for a '74 2bbl 360 is 252/252, so what could be another option between a 268 and the stock cam?

The 260H, I think If I was building a 318 this is what I would prefer but the 360 will have more lower end and could use the 268 cam.
