3RD gen HEMI decking/milling
3RD gen HEMI decking/milling
Hi guys, i'm on the process of rebuilding a 2003 5.7 Hemi , i had the block decked and heads, both just barely touched because they were straight , did it to get a very good sealing surface, i told the machinist to take out the very minimum because i know pistons and valves clearance on these Hemi are very tight, that said , what's the maximum amount of milling considered safe to avoid piston touching valves and combustion chamber? Piston to head clearance is fairly easy to determine but piston to valves it's way more difficult and time consuming so i'd like to avoit it if possible.
Machinist told me that keeping the milling to very a minimum would be something like 0.0010 total , i mean block decking plus heads milling, i hope he did it this way.
I know Cometic makes thicker head gaskets but i already have a stock set to put on.
I found on some forum that someone took out something like 0.040 from the heads with no issue...What do ya think?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
