408 stoker kits?
Im looking into building a 408 stroker for my 77 trail duster and I have no clue what kits are good or bad. I dont think I need 500hp id be happy with 400. Any recomendations? I have a pair of 340 x heads I may put on top if they would make it run.

Sure. Scat make an excellent kit as does Eagle. Ohio crank makes a great kit but hasn't had cranks in a while for the 4" arm.
You can make 400 HP with a 360 depending on the 340X flow. But in all honesty, a decent 360 roller block and EQ heads will get you to 400hp for less than the price of a balanced 408 kit.

I dont really know what a roller block is. Im trying to use stuff I already have. what i have is 360s no newer than 80. A pile of 318s some newer than 80. some 340s I wont be useing those for this project. several 400s and several 440s. Dad was a collecter not a builder. Question, if a do a complete rebuild on a 360 put the x heads on it a a good intake and a better cam what kinda power could i expect? My build is going to be a 77 trail duster few inches of suspension lift to clear 285/75/16. Its a four speed manual tranny. Im not sure of the gears that it has now. What i'm wanting is enough power to make her **** and get when I want it to. I had a 83 ramcharger with a early 70s 360 in it that was very strong, i miss it dearly.

Got it... Sorry about jumping ahead. A roller block in nothing more than a block set up from factory for a hydraulic or solid roller camshaft. Most block can now be converted to accept all but I falsely assumed you may have had access to such. 1992-up...
The X heads with a valve job flowed around 215cfm /145. And clean up the machine work and casting a little. EXCELLENT flow numbers and supportive of what you want. Light for a stroker but perfect for a 360 there.
The x heads will support 400 HP. You just need to figure out which direction you want to go and cam accordingly. My advice, dont get wrapped around the axle on HP. No need to calculate HP peaks for a truck. You want long broad torque curve....

okay, Its a 4 speed manual tranny im pretty sure it has 354 gearing in the diffs. I'm putting 285/75/16 tires on it no bigger. I have a offenhouser 360 degree intake off a 318 if that would work or factory 4 barrel intakes or I could buy whats best for what i need. I want the thing to have unending power when I step on the petal. My friend who builds bowties says I would like the Bracket Master.
