496 stoker

Im thinking about puting a 400 crank in my 440. How far up would that raise my pistons going from a 3.75 inch stroke to a 4.150? As of right now my pistons sit about .120 in the hole. New pistons wouldnt be a problem but I was just curious about the new height and need imput on what kind of pistons I would need to get. Any help would be much appriciated. Thanks in advance

My blueprint sheet says 1.865 pin height measured at .200 down with a deck height of -.010. You should really have your engine builder order pistons with his measurements though.

Buy it as a kit !!! You need to change the rods too!!!! Are you not going to a shorter stroke with the 400 crank,, in your 440 ? also the mains are a different size !!!

Yeah, the 400 has a 3.38 stroke. I thought maybe he was referring to putting a 440 crank in a 400 (451 CID) but then he mentioned a 4.15 stroke crank (aftermarket) to come up with 496CID with a stock 440 bore. At this point it's anyones guess. A kit sounds like a good idea, but the finished deck height needs to be known before the order is placed.

I was told a 400 crank would fit if was machined. Not saying anybody is wrong but I found a 400 crank on ebay that is advertised with a 4.150 stroke. If I wasn't on a very tight budget id already have a kit. The block is .040 over but I don't think that makes much of a difference.

I would NOT use a 400 crank in a stroker application !!! 496 ? You need a 440 block and a stroked 440 crank I would ONLY use a forged crank

A 4.15 stroke crank in a 400 block would yield more displacement than a similar stroke crank in a B/RB, being that the 400 has a large bore. I've never built one, but I would imagine the pin height on the piston would cause excessive piston slap and may be into the rings at that point. Probably fine for a race car.
