I just got a 69 440 adn I am curious if there is a way to tell what kind of car it cam out of. I pulled the VIN (last 8) off the motor but I think all that tells me is the year, plant, and sequence. Am I correct or am I missing something. VIN is 9A301721

A is the assy plant which I recall is St Louis which Built B bodies mostly , but other than that no way to know .

 

If you look at the engine code on the flat pad at the front of the intake manifold, see if it says HP in the code. If so, that narrows it down some.
