68 Barracuda

I'm fixing to build a 360 on hand to go with a 4 speed and a 271 possi rear in a 68 notchback Barracuda. Here's my early plan. Stock block checks out. Installing a SCAT crank, Eagle balanced rods, and Keith Black balanced pistons to gain roughly 10:1 copmpression. Plan to install Purple cam .429/.440, electronic ignition, air gap intake, 650 cfm, headers, reworked stock heads. I do not plan to race this. I'm a 57 year old kid fulfilling his dream. It will my street rod. Any sugestions or advice?

Sounds good to me. May want to change that air gap to a RPM Performer instead. The air gap is for higher RPMs.

I would run the air gap especially if you have it , I assume you want to stroke this beast to 410 CI or so the 650 will be too small , I would use a minimum 750 cfm & I prefer the Proform carbs , they have incrediable tunability . I would rethink the cam take a look at the Lunati VooDoo line for the duration you can get a lot more lift .

Is the rotating assembly balanced or are the individual components balanced to themselves? It should be balanced as an assembly. Also, "posi" is a Chevy term. Mopar is Suregrip. Can't wait to hear of your progress. Photos?

You would be much happier with at least a 3.23 rear gear

What heads are you using and how will you rework them?.

Your plan is rock solid. Good components and matched well.

I would pass on the purple cam as the technology has come a long way and there are some great new products available for the same price point. Its a good stick, don't get me wrong, and if you want it cause its mopar then run it.

But I would pick the cam last as you need to know what your heads are gonna do and how you are gonna run this.

A 650 cfm is NOT too small at all. I run a 650 HOLLEY on my 440 and made over 450 whp. Have run 11.40 - 11.60s with it ALL day long.

And i will agree on Lunati Voodoo cams. I run a voodoo cam in mine. Dont go with a purple shaft cam, theyre garbage now. They eat lobes.

Also.. if youre not planning on racing this, why are you uping the compression, putting in a built bottom end, head work, ect.... IF youre using it for car shows, just stick a stock 360 in with headers and drive it.
