97 5.2L 318 V8 piston ring identification?

I have both an after-market repair manual and an oem service manual. both call for piston ring 1 to have the dot and the bevel/chamfer facing up. For ring 2 it's with the dot facing up and the bevel/chamfer facing down. Both books have the same picture of one bevel up and one bevel down. My ring 2s' are correct with the dot up and the bevel down, but all the number 1 rings have no markings and are rectangle with no bevel, just square corners. I even looked at the number 1 rings under a large magnifying glass and the edges are square, no bevel. Another anomaly with this engine. Any ideas?

Just make sure you have all the rite parts as per the part numbers.... Use the mfg. installation information for the installs. It may have just been a improvement in the design.
with all things being the rite stuff.... If there are no marks on the top ring. It dose not matter which way you install it...

Good Catch thou......
