Cam Break-In

I have the new cam installed along with springs and lifters, everything is lubed up really good with the comp cams break in lube. My question is I bought a quart of comp cams break in oil. Do I only add the one quart to the oil already in the car. Want to make sure I take the right steps before starting it up for 30 minutes.

I would do it !! It won't hurt anything. Make sure to add a zinc additive every oil change..

So just add the quart to the oil already in there. I bought zddp plus, five bottles said one bottle is good for each oil change. Now after the break in do I change the oil and add a bottle of the zinc additive? I had to call comp cams because I was concerned about the springs. They are single with damper inside not a real double spring they said they should be fine for break in. Summit said the same.

You should research and follow the cam break in EXACTLY "It's not that simple." If you have heavy enough springs you may need to break it in with weaker springs, then use air and "on engine" spring tools to change to different "running" springs. Research how much additive to use in oil AFTER break in. There's a ratio, and you don't want too much, either. There is an oil you can buy I believe, which still has the additive in. I don't use it. My new engine will have a roller, after all these years.

Typically you are better off using a break in oil than just the break in additive for initial break in. I chose lucas breakin oil for my engine but brad penn and comp also sale break in oils. You need to use as many quarts as it takes to fill your particular engine. after initial breakin than you drain and you can fill with dino oil and a pint of the comp additive for the next 500-1000 miles. drain again and resume with dino racing oil until at least 5k miles, at which time you can continue with the dino racing oil or switch to synthetic. If you switch to synthetic I would stick wit royal purple, amsoil, redline, or higher viscosity mobile 1.

You want to have fresh oil in the car to break the cam in....Then add the zinc additive by what is required and recommended...And with every oil change add the zinc to the oil as recommended....Sometimes it is just easier to use the oil with the zinc in it already...Bill

There are two products that I bought Comp cams 1590 and 159 one's the oil and one is the additive, both say great for breaking in the new cam. What is the best way I know everyone says one way is better than the other but I really don't want to mess it up. Could I use just 10w 30 oil from the store and put the one bottle of 159 Additive in or just get 5 or however many quarts of the 1590 the break in OIL and use that.

Ok called comp cams again, they said just use the break in oil drain the old oil put the 1509 oil in 5 quarts or however many it takes, then after break in drain and replace and drive 500 miles and replace again. Also they said the springs will be fine with the break in.
