What about this combo:
318 std bore,flat head pistons
302 heads ported,
Cam 276/286 duration-441/441 lift
performer rpm intake
Holley 650
Fenderwell headers
2500 stall converter
83/4 -3.10
would that work?

Actually that was kinda close to my old 318.

Anything will "work". That doesn't sound too bad, but your biggest problem will be the 3.10 gears. Great for the highway, but you might find it a little sluggish on the street. Carb is "OK", but you could go a little smaller. (I used to run an 800 cfm Thermoquad, and the very small primaries really helped the bottom end.)

You didn't mention the weight of the car, and that has to factor in.

Sounds close to perfect for a street driver. I might bump the lift up a touch myself. Make sure you check retainer to valve stem clearance for available lift as the stock 318 heads can be tight. Think about a windage tray and oil pan baffling for oil control.
