Ederbrock Carter AFB 9755S

This 9755S is supposed to be 750 cfm. It is a square bore, based on the pictures. Is this going to work with my 440?

If not, any ideas of where I can get a working 750 cfm for that 440? (see "buid for Imperial" thread for details). I am picking up the car today from the transmission shop. I have a feeling that the carburetor I have there will not work too well. So, I am looking for alternatives. I have a 650 cfm AVS, but I expect that will be too small for the engine.

Thanks

Where I'll be getting the carb for my own 440: http://www.carb-x.com/domestic-carbu...w-all-products

Thanks, but these are thermoquads. I am interested in AFB or AVS, but the AVS's are too expensive...

If you can go new carb I would suggest a Street Demon, I'm using one and would call it a great carb.

most of the Ederbrock AFBs clones have the metering rods have to much differnce between the cruse to power step. just check out the step in an O.E.M. AFB rods. try to match the Ederbrock rods to the O.E.M. steps. but if it has a cam a lot bigger than any chrysler O.E.M. cam my info my not work. I.E. you might need the Ederbrock rods. man o man did i really keep it that short?

It should run on a 600 or 650 CFM without to much trouble, as long as the engine is mostly stock and in good working order.

Well, that's the problem. I got a lot of work on this engine, if I install a 650 there goes my top end. Even 750 cfm may be on the small side.

I'm With Lynn......
Call http://www.bigsperformance.com/index.htm
And get on of Jesses 850cfm's
That should take you to about 7600rpm without a CFM problem

Well, the cam I have is .477/.480, 268/280 at 0.006. Also, a bit of porting, and 2.14/1.81 valves (the one step larger size from the stock). Also, CH4B Ederblock intake, stock manifolds. The cheapest way to an 850 CFM is a Rochester, like I have on the other Imperial.

Here is my adventure today, with the AFB.

I start the car this morning, first hunted for vacuum leaks, non found. Then, I properly installed the kick down linkage by looking at the other car (shop had screwed up). Then, since the carb behaved itself. I decided on a short drive to the gas station for testing. Transmission did not slip this time, and shifted well. On the way back from the short drive, the car was running good enough that I decided to test the secondaries. I put the car on 1st gear on the steep hill next to my appartment from about 20mph and put my foot down. Unfortunately, the shift linkage is not properly set, and the kick down did not work, so the car accelerated hard on 2nd, with low rpm. Smooth intake sound, no knock. Then, when I let off the gas, the car would stall as you try to move. Thought it was bad the acc pump, which contributed, but the primaries were not flowing enough. I used the down hill to go back home, but I could not even park the car. By playing with the choke, I managed to get it in its parking hole, but barely. Later I confirmed that as I hit the gas, and as the engine starts missing, when I poor a bit of gas, it revs up temporarily. So, there is no question. The primaries got partly clogged, and the car runs lean. This was probably taking place on and off, but now, they are really clogged. May be I can try the hand-chocking trick, but the way this carb is set, its hard to cover the hole opening with your palm ...

I have never rebuilt a carb, so not certain what to do next. If I need an 850 cfm anyway, may be I can start looking for a rochester.
