EFI from a carb
Gang, I have been looking hard into the EFI carb kits like the Holley, FAST, and powerjection III for my Camaro, and thought about it for my 73 Challenger with a 440. I just came across this new MSD EFI kit, the big plus is there are no return lines. Have anyone used these kits on their MOPARs or familar with the new MSD kit? From my readings for a weekend cruiser these EFI conversions are a good piece of gear, what are your thoughts?

If i were you, i'd be using the FAST ez-EFI. You dont have to do any tuning. It has a self learning computer. pretty much plug and play. def worth the $1600 or whatever it is for it. just my $.02

The latest generation FAST doesn't need a return line either. it has a fuel pump that varies fuel pressure on demand, and meters it like that. I haven't heard any realy bad things about it, and odds are it's the same design MSD is using. I LIKE MSD, but I like savings too

www.v8tv.com did an interview with the MSD guys at SEMA. I would bet we see his crew use one on a project soon.
The FAST systems have been used without many issues so if it were my nickle I would go with something that has the bugs worked out. However, I bet MSD did their homework and their product is probably well built.

Joe, I guess it comes down to whether you are a tinkerer, or have money? There are really few performance gains by an FI system over a carb, BUT, it CAN run better throughout the WHOLE rpm range than a carb! Carbs are kinda "peaky", and unless tuned by a pro, can leave you wanting at certain rpm's and load levels. FI has a broader and flatter torque curve.
If you are a tinkerer, might I suggest Mega-Squirt EFI. It uses open-source software, and off-the-shelf parts to build your own EFI system. PK1 is also really sharp with this stuff.
Most of these systems utilize either a batch-fire, or TBI style system. I plan on using Mega-squirt for a sequential port injection system. I also plan on eliminating my dizzy, and using a coil-per-plug system. If you can put a nitrous nozzle at each port, then you can put a fuel injector at each port!
Lots of info out there. Do some reading before you decide.
