Engine combo!

Ok so I have a 1979 winnebago with a 440/727 combo! Gets 6 miles to the gallon. Was wondering what you all thought about redoing it for better mileage and performance? It has stock everything. I have put headers and a an edelbrock 750 on it! Has stock ignition and all stock internal parts. Also tranny needs a rebuild was thinking of a towing rebuild and modern towing convertor. Can't seem to get many answers from the motor home crowd! Thinking a rebuild and modern cam and manifold. Wondered about compression and cam timing as well as maybe a set of 440source aluminum heads. Would be nice to get it up to 10mpg. What about injection? I know this is lots of questions. Let me know what you think!

That's about the best that it gets......
I did the best of 8MPG......
Mine was a 31' 1977 Explorer 440 727 with a Termoquad....
I would pass everything but a fueling station....

Keep the iron heads.... I like the EFI... But that might take some time to pay you back.....

You might thing about a A618RE47 ??? an overdrive 727 used behind the diesel pickup trucks with an adapter to fit the 440

I have an 03 48re in my shop. Finding it really hard to find a way to make it shift! Need a standalone set up! I actually have a Isuzu 6bd1t diesel as well! But the tranny shifting thing has me thrown! Sun coast diesel has a set up but have not been able to get any feedback on it! Thanks guys!

Actually the Isuzu is pretty much the forerunner to the cummins even has dodge parts numbers on it! The tranny shifting thing is what is hanging me up on that combo. I agree that the diesel would be better!

You should be able to use the Isuzu trans? Should be a 6 speed auto?

Isuzu is all mechanical. Has good power. have the pieces to bolt tranny to it. Just can'y find stuff to make it shift. Not sure about Isuzu tranny, this is a 1986 engine. Not much good info on their tranny!
