Fuel gauge issue 67 Satellite

Hi guys, having an issue with my fuel gauge, sending unit was replaced last year, everything was working well until a few weeks ago. My issue is the fuel gauge needle shows maximum full when turning on the car, I checked the ground it seems when the unit was installed the ground wire was connected to the short fuel line stub on the sending unit using a hose clamp, the other end was connected to the flange of the gas tank using a bolt and nut. I removed the bolt and sanded the area to bare metal then replaced, at the fuel line coming out of the sending unit i removed the clamp and replaced it making sure the wire has a very good contact. I removed the wire from the dash to the sending unit and fuel gauge dropped to zero. Some times for a minute or so the gauge will show 1/2 a tank which is where it should be then climb quickly back to full. Does this sound like sending unit or gauge, if float was stuck not sure how it would show full at half tank. any thoughts appreciated pete

Pete, Good to see you, Hope all has been well with you and yours?
Sounds like the wire from the gauge to sender may have gotten shorted some place along the way...
If you unplug it at the tank and the needle goes to zero, them it would be in the sender.... If you unplug it at the tank and it still stays full... Its a short in the wire and you will have to go chase it..

When i disconnected the feed to the sender my gauge dropped to empty, just to confirm if there was a short in the wire the gauge would stay at full...so in my case seems to be sending unit? I am trying to find a NOS from Beaverton Mopar, if i have no luck any recommendations for a good aftermarket unit, it seems the more i read the more i see alot of the aftermarkets are faulty. PS thanks for asking i am well and still loving Mopars pete

That would be the proper assumption, Sender no good in this case.
No leads a known good source. Its seem to be just a crap shoot these days.
" Your Talking about National Moparts"? when you say Beaverton? Could Check with "Nicks Garage"???
You might pull the one you have a see if you can fix it without too much trouble?

I connected a partially defective sender i had laying around, confirmed it is the unit as you expected. Beaverton has one and i will have it by Friday. It was Nick from Indy that rebuilt my 383 pete
