fuel pump location?
When swapping from mechanical to electrical fuel pump where is the best location to install the electric pump? Closer to the tank, the engine, or wherever is most convenient to open the system and run the necessary wiring?
i have used a carter elec pump , next to the stock one on a 1984 ply 318 mild engine. i would put it in the back for a race engine for sure. on a 1982 3/4 ram with a warmed up 360. i put a carter elec pump on the opp frame rail opp of the gas tank. did just fine.
For reference this is going in my '86 3/4 ton that I am swapping in a Magnum 360 with an Edlebrock AVS offroad carb and RPM air gap intake, so I am losing the mechanical pump.
I had an old CJ-5 long time ago that had an electric fuel pump mounted right near the engine on the inner fender well and it seemed to do ok but it was a stock 304 v8.
I know the easier road would be under the hood right about where the steel line meets rubber to run up to the carb... but if the consensus that it's best (for performance) to install it nearest to the tank I guess I will just have to lay out a location and figure out the best way to tie into the fuel line and avoid moving suspension parts. Thanks guys... any more input is welcome!
