gas tank

1980 Plymouth Trailduster.

When I put too much gas in the tank, it spills out. Are there any seals that are known to go bad? Or am I looking at a possible crack in the plastic cell?

It spills out from the top of the tank.

Drop the tank enough so that you can check the hoses...

You might get lucky and it may only be the vent grommet rotted out.
Your still going to have to lower the tank to get to it. Careful not to break anything else. Most of the time, there's not enough slack to drop the tank a lot, just enough to sneak you hand in to undo the lines and sender.
