I need a gear head 340
I need a gear head 340
Hi, I bought a TA challenger some one has built to rad for the street, need to figure what to do, ok it has a 410 rear, 727 auto reverse valve body u must shift it like manual, has 23 to 27 stall, lift is 525, 258, 12.1 compression, So to make it where I can drive it can I change the stall and leave the engine alone and replace rear with 355 also. or would changeing stall to lower mess with the idle, would also like to change trans back to normal. I am looking for the easiest and possible the cheaper solution. Please Help. Thanks
Sell the drive train to someone who wants to go racing. And build another engine..
Other wise keep the converter, replace the trans with a stocker, change the rear gears. 12/1 340 motor is going to require racing gas !!!!

The gear change will help for more streetable manners, the rev/man valve body can be pulled and a kitted standard one used for "normal" auto operation. But the compression is gonna keep ya in the "high-test" range of gas IF it will run on it. otherwise as was mentioned race gas of some kind...
The stall isnt all that radical so I wouldnt worry to much about that...

If this is a true t/a and the 340 is numbers matching selling it will devalue the car considerably. What ever it takes return it to oem appearance.
you can change to Cometic head gaskets , these are available up to .100 thick to help drop the compression , changing the converter may hurt you though , as it should match with the cam , if the converter locks up too soon it will be below the engine powerband & the car will perform poorly , you need the engine to get into the powerband before load is applied to the engine , changing the rear gears is Ok
Thanks, It is a real TA but of course the engine has been long gone, I was told before I change the valve body I need to take off the tail shaft and make sure the weights are still there since it has been change to a manual valve body, if the weights are gone is it hard to put them back on. I figured I will check it also why I pull the valve body, trans is still in car also. Thank You all for the advice on what to do this is my first mopar as I only had chevys which I still do but this will be a fun thing to do travel in unknown waters lolol. To bad mopar cost so much dont know why. Trying to find a resonable rear gear and someone to set it up. I going with a 355 which was in the car new.
