Intermittent knocking sound, '72 318

I have a 1972 dodge dart swinger with a 318. and for weeks now I have had this knock that comes and goes. its heard from the engine compartment and kinda towards the drivers side. the motor is built up and has a pretty aggressive cam. I've had a feeling its in the valve train somewhere just based off what it sounds like but I could be wrong. any ideas on what it could be?

Run for a short time without belts.

Check the torque converter flex plate and bolts.

Have a look at the harmonic balancer for straightness, looseness or rub.

Turning crank back and forth can show any looseness or noises.
