Need help!!!!! 360 4x4 build
I've got a 1990 w150 that I'm trying to put a carburated 2000 360 in. Here's the rundown….. I put a 318 out of a 93 in a Few weeks ago. I did away with the fuel injection and put an edelbrock air gap intake and 650cfm performer cab on it with and aftermarket fuel pump. When I started that engine, it ran for a total of about 1 minute before the engine locked up. I tore the engine down to discover a bent rod and an exploded piston on the number 8 cylinder. To ease the hassle of a rebuild I took the 00 360 I had in a wrecked truck and swapped everything out. I cranked the engine up last night and after about 15 seconds of idle, the engine started knocking so I cut it off, after some checking and inspecting I attempted to restart the engine only to now find out the same thing has happened on the exact same cylinder. What am I doing wrong? Is this just terrible luck???? Help please, I'll answer specific questions ASAP

Did you try to rotate them before installing them? Did you hear them both run before pulling them?
Was any damage done to the block, head, crank, etc.? Maybe you get get another rod and piston and get the 360 going again.

What kind of fuel pump are you using ??? Too much fuel pressure ?? Could it have flooded the cyl with fuel causing the motor to lock up ??
Was there any signs of water or antifreeze in the cylinder

okay you put an intake and carb on a fuel injected truck. Yes the 90 91 were both throttle body injection.
Now you are putting an aftermarket fuel pump where exactly? What did you do with the intank fuel pump? Did you switch the tank to an older style tank for carb? Did you also change the wiring in the cab and underhood so you could run a regular distributor?
Just a few things I wanted to ask first.

On the 318 I screwed up because I completely over thought the fuel issue and started cranking the engine with the stock in-tank pump and I believe that's what caused failure, however with the 360 I bypassed the stock pump and installed a purolator fuel pump that has been used on another carbd engine. I did rotate both engines prior to firing them up though and did have oil pumping. as far as the wiring for the distributor, everything stayed stock, everything plugged up perfectly

Did you swap the 318 crank pulley to the 360 and screw the balance?
We r missing something? I've drained motors and they have run for 10 plus minutes before lock. Even filled some chuck full with water and run, drained and repeated to many miles of service life.
15 second lock would be water or something physically in that chamber. Or something lose in the assembly. You have water in the tank?
We need more info. Ive done this swap and its straight forward.
