Old guy needs help with cam position
My son and I are attempting to refresh a 383 that is in great shape. We are replacing the cam, lifters and all gaskets.
This is the first time either of us have tackled something like this.
Since the bottom timing sprocket has not been off we can position the crank. But how do we know the proper rotation for the cam? It is a single bolt cam. I have looked at the factory service manual and don't really understand what I am reading.
So, if anyone has the time to assist us with a few pointers, It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ask away, glad to help.
Looking at the engine front, crankshaft turns clockwise, camshaft turns clockwise at half the speed. If you look at the sprocket face there should be a dot, in the manual it should show the orientation of the two dots, one on each sprocket, in a straight line through the center line of the crank and camshaft.
