Performance Upgrades

Hello,
I just recently purchased a semi restored 1967 Dodge Charger with a 440 engine. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt before he got sick and couldn't drive the car anymore. The motor has less than 4,000 miles on the rebuild and is in pretty good shape.
I would like to add some performance to the car and I am looking for some thoughts or suggestions from more knowledgeable people. The previous owner installed a more than stock camshaft, but I have no way of knowing exactly what's in the motor. I am thinking about switching to the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold and a 750 Holley carb. I would also like to add some headers and a good flowing exhaust. I probably need to have the transmission rebuilt and I will most likely install a new torque convertor. What's a good stall speed for what I have?
I don't want to get too crazy, but I would enjoy some extra horsepower and performance.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

If the cam is a little above stock, you're going in the right direction with the eddy performer rpm, a 750 and headers, but anything else is guesswork.

The stall on the converter is dependent on the cam's power band and the rear gears.
While 2500 - 3000 "should be" the neighborhood, that's based on a lot of assumptions and is still a guess.

Happily, you can figure out the gear ratio and even the cam specs with a little do diligence.

I agree with your thinking but not knowing what the cam is dosen't help you with converter and rear gears.
measuring cam lift on a mopar doesn't help most of the time because under .500 lift was popular but duration could be from 208 too 250 @ .050 lift and the duration determines converter and rear axle gears. So maybe a cam change is needed also. This is what I do and them put a complete package together.

Thanks for the replies and the opinions.
I bolted on a Holley 750 carb. and the motor seems to be running ok so far. What's the best set of headers for this car? I would most likely want to purchase a complete bolt on exhaust system if possible.

Will I run into hood clearance issues with the Edelbrock RPM manifold? Is the Edelbrock CH4B a good manifold? It's supposed to be an aftermarket replacement for the cast iron manifold.

As a part time driver, what's a good gear ratio to use? I don't want to get too crazy and turn a lot of rpms.

Thanks again for any thoughts.

Before buying new parts I would do a compression check and see how the motor is doing. If you have a low compression motor or down cylinders.
if its a low compression motor if affects what parts to recomend.
