Problem with engine noise or???

hi everyone just put the heads on my 273 which was having all sorts of problems with compression and over heating. they machine shop found a crack in one of the water jackets. in any event the engine is all back together with a new timing chain as well.

changed the oil and antifreeze and flushed the block.
car started right up and timed it to spec.

The car started to squeal like the belts were lose and it had a thump.
tightened the belts still squealing so i figure maybe it the pulleys or alternator.
so i take off all the belts and run the car....... still squealing and thumping like something is hitting, the thump is once every rotation.

any idea's of what it could be? maybe the damper went bad? not on tight enough? it's not an exhaust leak i checked that. the keyway in the shaft holding the damper was in good shape. and no i did not slam the damper on with a hammer. lol

ok I got the squealing to go away but still have the thump or knock.
after some checking it sounds like Maybe not so sure anymore the damper or quite possibly might be the fuel pump thumping..... when i touch the fuel pump it seems to be thumping....
is it possible to put the pump in wrong? the cam lobe was torqued to speck.
the pump went in so easy when i had it at top dead center.....
keep in mind i put in a new timing chain.

The car never ran better!!!

any advice would be most welcome.......

Wild guess time. Maybe one pushrod didn't find it's way home? Dead cat in the fan blades? Squirell nest in one of the exhaust pipes? Stabbing in the dark here. (live cat in the fan?)

I would recommend getting an automotive stethescope, the kind with a rod on the end to touch parts of the engine to listen for your thump.

hi all. law of deduction here, felt the fuel pump it was thumping while running. Took out fuel pump ran car for as long as it would last with a cup of fuel. no noise. got new fuel pump quiet now and running real good. original dodge factory installed fuel pump removed.
Was quite nervous for a bit though it was a rod knock or i had to takeoff the timing cover again because the fuel pump cam may have gotten lose , that's how loud it was the noise was.

sorry no dead animals found

Torque converter bolt ? hitting block ? Push rod ?
What was causing the squeal ?

the squeal was a piece of thick wire that I found that was twisted around the steering box for decades.

I pulled it out and set it on the inner passenger fender while I was taking the engine apart, and it found it's way back into the engine compartment. it got wrapped around the damper.

one in a million shot
