Reluctor Gap issues

I'm running a mopar electronic ignition. I'm having some issues setting the reluctor gap. If I try to set the gap at .006-.008, the magnet tilts the pickup towards the reluctor, and they make contact. I'm afraid If i leave it here, they might make contact while the engine is running.

Right now I have the gap at .012, and the magnet does not pull the pick up towards the reluctor. And the engine runs okay. Its a brand new pickup (the last one was fried, and defintely did make contact with the reluctor at some point).

Am i being a little paranoid? Is it possible for the magnet to pull the pickup towards the reluctor when the enigne is running?

Pull the distributor >>>> and make sure the shaft is not bent and or none of the plates are bent.... Some times it is easier to set the gap with a playing card from an deck of cards.
Hope that helps..
