single vs dual exhaust?
1990 Dodge ramcharger rebuilt but engine has 230 000 km- 5.9l 360
so i cheaped out on the exhaust and went single 3" flowmaster 40 downdrafted instead of the dual 2.5". I was expecting the truck to be louder although it sounds pretty good, and everyone says its loud enough.
Considering there are no cats in the equation if i would have went dual 2.5 flowmaster 40's would it have been alot louder?

Kind of hard to say. Probably louder but I wouldn't say a lot louder. With running both sides into one pipe, it helps to equal out the back pressure on the motor. To get the most out of running true dual exhaust, the motor should be re-built, balanced and blue printed.

I don't get the meaning of this post. "What will be louder???"
This is where you and I clash heads. I don't like loud, for loud sake. It has to sound GOOD, and a single pipes "don't sound good," (at least on a V8), regardless of how "loud" they are
Second, "loud" does not equal "performance." Some years ago some outfit ran a test on some different mufflers, and --big surprise-- some of the louder glasspacks weren't all that great in the performance department.
And for me, I'd much rather "not attract the cops", have a nice mellow sound, and know that if or when I get on the right hand pedal, the thing is not held up because of something "with the exhaust system."
Hey you asked for our opinion, that's mine
